If you have an amber check engine, or service soon light on, your vehicle is telling you there is a problem. It may be something as simple as a loose gas cap, or something like a bad oxygen sensor that could be robbing your fuel economy.

It is very important to get it checked out as soon as possible to prevent other problems. For instance, if you have a bad sensor that causes the fuel system to dump too much fuel, you can ruin your oxygen sensors and even clog your cat converter or converters. If your car is coming due for a NYS inspections, and it is a 1996 or newer and the engine light is on, it fails inspection. Get your car in before your inspection is due because, even after your car is repaired, and your light is turned off, it has to be driven for several days before the computer monitors are deemed ready to let the car pass inspection.
